Alumni: Jörg Arens

29-year-old Jörg Arens graduated from La Salle in 2010. Jörg is from Germany, and the first job he took after graduation was in Hamburg. There he held a sales position in a startup company where he gained a lot of experience about online startups and the digital landscape in general.

jörn arensIn 2013 Jörg got employed by Google Inc. in Dublin, where he is currently working as a Key Account Manager. Jörg likes to work with online businesses and to help companies; and his current job enables him to combine these two interests.

Jörg works with clients from three different sectors; Automotive, Consumer packaged goods and Finance, and he enjoys helping these industries make the shift from offline to online. By working in several industries, he can continuously discover different approaches to online advertising. Through his work, Jörg gets to consult some of the major advertising companies on their marketing activities by working with marketing departments, Chief marketing officers as well as performance-, media-, and creative agencies. He also recommends solutions for the companies to achieve their various targets.

In Google, Jörg gets to enjoy the incredible office environment in the Dublin EMEA HQ. Normally, he gets to the office between 08.00 and 09.00, where he enjoys a breakfast. According to Jörg, the food at Google is fantastic. Firstly on Jörg’s agenda is to check campaign performances for some of the AdWords accounts; to evaluate how the campaigns are performing on Search, Google Display Network and YouTube. Throughout the day, Jörg also communicates with different agencies or clients and advises them on how they can optimize their accounts. In addition to this Jörg is specialized in mobile solutions, so he also gets to work on various projects such as mobile usability improvements. A normal workday for Jörg usually ends between 18.00 and 19.00.

During his time at La Salle, Jörg acquired the skills needed to handle several projects and streams of work simultaneously and under time pressure. This is something that benefits Jörg now, as he in his job is required to manage various clients and other stakeholders in complex processes. Another advantage Jörg brought from La Salle is the ability to navigate between different nationalities, which is something that benefits him when working in such a multicultural environment as he does in the Dublin EMEA HQ.

When I asked Jörg if he has any recommendations to the students currently studying in La Salle he highlights the importance of not missing out on all the opportunities surrounding one, such as the NMUN, the various sport projects, getting to know the engineering students and getting involved with local businesses. He also recommends to get to know the different companies and business models in Technova, and to try to generate practical insights.

As a last recommendation, Jörg mentioned that the La Salle students should also enjoy the beautiful city of Barcelona, and make friends from around the world!
