Management of the data centers

A network management system is a set of hardware and software tools that allow the supervision of the individuals components of a network within a larger network management framework.

Network management system components assist with:

  • Device discovery: identifying what devices are present on a network.
  • Device monitoring: monitoring at the device level to determine the health of network components and the extent to which their performance matches capacity plans.
  • Network performance analysis: tracking performance indicators such as bandwidth utilization, packet loss, latency, availability and uptime of routers, switches and  other Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) -enabled devices.
  • Intelligent notifications: configurable alerts that will respond to specific network scenarios by paging, emailing, calling or texting a network administrator.

In Data centers that management is done by Data Center  infrastructure management (DCIM), that is the integration of information technology (IT) and facility management disciplines to centralize monitoring, management and intelligent capacity planning of a data center's critical systems. Achieved through the implementation of specialized software, hardware and sensors, DCIM enables common, real-time monitoring and management platform for all interdependent systems across IT and facility infrastructures.

Also a very important feature of the management is the automation of the network. With that it is possible to reduce a lot of work, time and cost when a problem occurs or when is necessary replace equipment.

So in order to solve the case study i will use the management solution of Arista, that is a open solution and have the next features:

  • Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP): Eliminates human errors, automates provisioning using standard protocols and reduce the cost of deployement and speed time to production for new services.
  • Zero Touch Replacement (ZTR): Automates provisioning of replacement switches, reduces outage times and also eliminates human errors.

Also Arista works with SDN and allows the configuration of all the network with only one central device.
