Data Centers Guidelines

¡Hi Friends!

I know that most of you are thinking this is a blog of datacenters but nobody explains what we must know when we have to design once. But don’t worry today we will talk about!

When you have to develop a data center, you have to consider information blocks and know what can you achieve.

This is an example list of the blocks:

Performance:

We must know if the company will invest enough for do virtualization or have a physical Data Centers.  In case they chose virtualization we will know if we want public clouds or private clouds. An advantage of using external virtualization is that the company which you hire is their responsibility that everything works.

But on the other hand, have a physical data center involve you to know that have a direct impact on network performance so you must consider the structured cabling, racks and cabinets, and cable management.

Time:

All technology products would have to change every 4 years. So our data center will have to be modulated because after a while we will have to change some components without affect the network. Our infrastructure must be able to support common topologies like “Top of rack”, “Middle of row”, “End of row” …

We will have Modular racks and cabinets, modular options for optimizing airflow management, easy cable management install, wide vertical cable managers that support changing cabling needs, integrated pathways with rack/cabinets ….

The company never allows you to change all data center, probably they will keep some server with a service so you will have to ensure compatibility.

Space:

Infrastructure systems must be designed for greater flexibility and scalability allowing for the right-sizing of a data center.

Space is important for the data centers; our system should be built for optimization so we will have to choose some strategies.

Use the rack or cabinet as your basic building block.

Select racks and cabinets with higher weight limits.

Experience:

In this long journey, we will have a lot of problems that need a quick fix. We will have to choose a good manufacturer which can provide a usefully resources to help coordinate the project through the entire design phase.

The manufacturer should have expertise with all components of the solution (new cooling technologies, cabling physical infrastructure, cable management and pathways).

Sustainability:

Our Data center will have to be sustainable, maybe is not a high priority for an organization working with a sustainable manufacturer but have some benefits.

Sustainable manufacturers develop solutions that reduce the impact on the environment. This translates into designs that offer choice and flexibility in space design, reduce installation time and reduce material waste on site.

And finally I would like to mention the TIA-942 which is a quality standard that our datacenter will achieve for a good work.
