Network configuration advanced

What’s up everybody! Today we’ll talk about the network configuration of our Data Center, we will detail a bit the different routers and switchs we want to use for the DC!

For designing the datacenter of the bank, we have some little things to respect, sadly they are in Catalan and we do not master this language.

What about routers?

Here is a router which is virtual. There are numerous advantages using virtual router, and I appreciate the fact that you will gain a lot of space with virtualization, whatever it is: storage virtualization (you can see our post for this), Cloud (another post for this) or anything else.

The thing I like with the HPE VSR1000 Virtual Services Router Series, is the fact that it provides us the same functionality as a physical router. It means that for the same result, you will gain space.

Moreover, it supports different hypervisor, such as VMware ESXI and Linux KVM and numerous Linux distributions (CentOS, Ubuntu, Red Hat).

I    would definitely choose one of these router for our Data Center.

Things I love with this HP HSR6804 Router Chassis is the fact that the routing table size is HUGE. 4 million entries IPv4 and 2 million entries IPv6, compare to others router it’s a lot and I appreciate that.

One of the specifications I dislike for this router, and for the major part of the router, is the physical part. Even if the dimensions are small and the weight not too high, it will take space and it is a bad point compare to virtual router. You can see the details of this router on the link above.

What about switchs?

We have a lot of switches availables on hp, we will focus on two of them: the HPE FlexFabric 12900 Switch Series and the HPE 12500 Switch Series.

The first one can supports a lot ports ethernet, 10G 40G and 100G which suits our needs.

It can have a throughput of 28.8 Bpps.

It swicthing capacity are 46 Tbps, we need 1Gbps, it is highly over what we need but it is a top quality switch.

It support some management features which can be usefull for the bank.

The second one has the same capacity for the port ethernet port, 10G, 40G and 100G.

The throughput is lower up to 10.8 Bpps.

The switching capacity is 24.3 Tbps.

This second switch is less powerful for the datacenter but it suits our needs for a lower cost.

That’s it for the Network configuration, don’t forget to stay tuned to have more of this! Take care of yourself and have a good week!
