Virtualization vs Cloud Computing

Welcome again!!! In today's post we'll be talking about the main differences between Virtualization and Cloud computing, the pros and cons that have each other and the benefits that can give to us when designing a data center.

First of all we must explain each concept:

Virtualization: Although there are a lot of different types, using a big scope, we can say that virtualization is software that allows us to run and operate multiple operating systems and multiple application on the same unique machine at the same time. It creates different Virtual Machines that are able to share the resources of one physical machine (a server of our Data Center for instance).

Because we use fewer physical machines it allows us to reduce costs and increase efficiency. Also, as each Virtual machine is independent to all others increases security because in the scenario of an intrusion, only the virtual server attacked not the hole machine.

Cloud computing: All the options given by virtualization always require to have a big amount of physical operating power. Cloud computing is a technology that looks to share computing resources, software of data, and deliver them on demand through the Internet.

The main advantage on this technology is that can be deployed and started (in a basic level) with few costs. Also is a very scalable technology so gives us a lot of flexibility.

The question: So at the end, which technology we must use? The answer: It depends on the different needs that we have. Each technology has it's pros and cons, it really depends on the final user, so you must consider which option is more resolutive to you and take the maximum performance on the one that you choose.

That has been all for today's post, as always stay tuned to the new posts to learn more!!!
