Final Implementation (II)

Welcome again!!! This we’ll be our last post regarding our project. Today we’ll end explaining our final solution to our desing of an ultimate generation Data center.

Specifically today we’ll talk about the Management and Security. If you missed the first part (LAN and SAN equipment), you can review it here.

On the Management section, the solution that we have proposed is the following:

–SonicWall Analyzer: Is a software that runs on SonicWall devices that gives us a web-based network traffic analysis and reporting tool. It will allow us to evaluate data, backup and recovery, secure remote access appliances, traffic analytics, event reports…

–Dell Foglight Series: Dell Foglight Application is a series of products intended to monitor and manage all the network equipment. We can use it to monitor, analyze and report all the traffic in our network to make our management easier and control all the events and traffic flow in our data center.

On the security section we have to take in consideration two different aspects: Physical security, Network security.

The physical security relates to all the threats that our Data Center can recieve on the “real world”. To deal with these threats we have to use:

    -Surveillance systems: CCTV cameras, motion detector sensors…

    -Access control: Security personal, biometric access systems, inspection controls to all the equipment that enter to our DC…

     -Fire Detection and extinguishing systems.

    -Electrical backup systems: We need to have UPS (to be able to keep powering our datacenter in a case of a blackout). But all the UPS devices can’t power our equipment for several hours, so we need a generator o some kind of alternative powering supply system.

    -HVAC system: To control ventilation and air conditioning of our equipment, and keep the devicen in a low temperature so we can get the best performance and avoid heat related problems.

The network security relates to all the threats comming from the “cyber world”

To deal with all that we have choosen the next Dell products:

–SuperMassive E10000 series: A deep security next-gen scalable firewall capable to work at multiple gigabit speed, is allows us to control and analyze all the traffic that or network will be handling. It controls incoming and outgoing traffic, vpn and secure connections to our network, attack control – logging and report… among a lot of other features.

–SMA 1000 series: The SMA 1000 series are a group of products and equipment specific designed to control remote access, it not substitute the work of our main firewall; but it adds redundancy, better control and analysis and much better performance (on this aspect), so combined, gives to our security system a lot of protection.

–SonicWall also offers us Email security specific designed products that deal to all the attacks and vulnerabilities that can reach us through the email of our network.
