Data Center Facilities

Hello again everybody! In today’s post, we will discuss about the facilities that our data center must have in order to provide the highest availability possible and minimize all the failure possibilities. The main topics that we will talk about are the localization, cabling, cooling and electrical system, fire prevention and access control. First of all, we need to locate our data center in a properly place, there are some aspects that will have to be considered. Each country has its legislation in matter of Data Centers so it’s important to know the legal terms to take a decision. We will place the Center underground because a better temperature conditions and to provide extra access security. We will implement a hot aisle/cold aisle design, the front of the equipment in racks will be faced to a cold aisle equipped with air-conditioned systems and the back of the equipment will face the hot aisle. We will also provide a backup cooling system for possible failures. cold_aisle_containment_main In order to prevent power failures we will need to hire a backup power supplier company besides the main one. Also an own power generator will be placed in case the external suppliers fail and all equipment will be provided with backup plugs. All the cabling will be properly labeled and will be placed in the ceiling. In terms of fire prevention, we will implement in our data center a gas fire extinguishing system for its effectiveness and non-conductive properties in order to protect the integrity of the equipment. There will be smoke detectors all over the room to detect visible and non-visible smoke particles. Finally, we will talk about access control. Only authorized personal will own an access card and fingerprint authentication will be necessary to access the data center. All racks will be properly locked and we will implement a full net of security cameras both inside and outside the center. Security-Cameras This is all for today, hope you enjoyed!
