HOW TO INSTALL WINDOWS IN MAC OS X (English Version)
We have found that some students use MAC laptops, this is the reason why we have formed this tutorial.
There is a version of AutoCAD for MAC, some students actually use it, but it’s totally different from what we teach in class and we prefer that MAC users, to use Autocad in Windows.
The program that I will use is VirtualBox, there are other ways to install it, such as Parallel, BootCamp or VirtualBox, but installation is simple and its performance is adequate.
First, install Windows. For this we need the following:
Virtual Box para MAC
Virtual Box Extension Pack – for USB recognition
ISO image of Windows Operating System – we suggest Windows 7 Starter for being lighter and has the necessary to work with Autocad.
First install Virtual Box for MAC like a normal application and then the Extension Pack.
As VirtualBox lets you install different operating systems, indicate the name and the operating system that we will install.
In this case:
Select the amount of RAM you want to dedicate to the virtual machine, in this case as we have 4096MB (4GB) we will select 2048MB (2GB), this has to be proportional, but the minimum requirements to run Autocad are 2GB.
Select Create a virtual hard disk now:
Select the size that we need.
As a reference, Autocad 2014, gets more than 1.5GB but if we have Windows updates, Autocad 2014 and other applications that we will use in the future, can easily get 20GB so with 25GB it will be enough.
Virtual Box will create the virtual partition:
We will be something similar to this:
For USB devices recognition, we have to go to Settings / Ports, have previously connected the USB, and click the button with the USB and the green +.
Push Start (green arrow):
Search the ISO image that we have in our Hard Disk:
Setup will start:
Accept and push follow:
Select the virtual hard disk we have created before:
Setup will continue:
If this message appears, don’t click on any button:
Indicate User name and password:
Don’t insert any product key and click follow:
Windows will start:
If you want to have Windows in Full Screen or enlarge the window viewport push: VIEW/SWITCH
Change the Screen Resolution to 1024×768:
If windows doesn’t recognize one USB, make sure you have correctly plugged it and go to DEVICES / USB DEVICES and check that USB we want to use is enabled with √ .
