Defense of Doctoral Thesis by Daniel Amo

On January 31, GRETEL member Daniel Amo Filvà defended his Doctoral Thesis entitled "Privacidad y gestión de la identidad en procesos de analítica del aprendizaje" at the University of Salamanca.

This thesis analytically investigates the state of the question that implies that educational platforms do not have the functionalities to exercise all the rights granted by data protection laws to students and teachers.

The work carried out in the research identifies, designs and evaluates solutions that solve totally or partially the described problem. First, the possibilities of emerging blockchain technology are explored. Second, data warehouse-level solutions are evaluated in virtual learning environments. In both perspectives an experimental part focused on the development of functional prototypes is approached by:
- That there is adequate protection, confidentiality and security of the stored educational data.
- That the educational platforms are technologically ready to assume the exercise of the student's rights.
- And finally, the need to protect students and teachers by making the right use of digital classroom tools can be transferred to educational roles.

The research results show that the problem is complex and multiple. It is shown that blockchain cannot provide solutions for privacy and security at the data warehouse level. From the perspective of virtual learning environments, proposals are made for the advancement of science and functional solutions to specific questions of the problem are implemented. The research brings a clear evolution to the state of the question and new lines of work in which to approach different issues from the problematic to the future.
