Quantum Technologies in the Information Age

Quantum Technology according to Paul Martin, a Quantum Technology expert, is “a class of technology that works by using the principles of quantum mechanics (the physics of sub-atomic particles), including quantum entanglement and quantum superposition”.

What is Quantum Mechanics? “Is a subfield of physics that describes the behavior of particles — atoms, electrons, photons and almost everything in the molecular and submolecular realm” (Mann, 2022).

Everything we can observe in the Universe is made of Atoms!!!

Quantum Mechanics has been discovered a century ago, nowardays, the ability to control and manipulate matter at the microscopic level has reached unprecedented levels.

The Observatory of Quantum Technology based at La Salle, Ramon Llull, aims to monitor the where, when and what of the developments in quantum technologies. In so doing, it aims to make sense of the growing interest in these fields by providing analysis of the changing trends, character, and networks within and between technologies, fields and industries. For example, in the technological sector, the advances in the quantum realm, open the possibility to a huge variety of applications in areas such as medical sciences, telecommunications, financial analysis, computation, geo localization and more.

By tracing these specific developments, the Observatory aims to make clear the major changes in character and aims of the quantum technologies in order to better predict their present and future impact in our society. Many are witnessing the birth of a new technological Quantum Revolution.

The Observatory of Quantum Technologies team at La Salle is made up by Dr. Osvaldo Jimenz Farías, who is a professor at Ramon Llull University; Dr. Eoin Phillips,  associate Professor teaching economics and technology studies programs at Ramon Llull; Francesc Miralles, dean at La Salle International School of Commerce and Digital Economy and previously the diretor at Innova Institute; Raul Rotaeche, who is a student at La Salle Univerisity undertaking his degree in  "Business Management and Technology". He is currently working in the finance area at Simplr. Last but not least, Nelly Canessa, who is currently studying Management of Business and Technology with Digital Economy Specialization and as all the other team members, she is working as researcher in the Observatory of Quantum Technologies of the Innova Institute.
