Closing of the 2018 “Crazy for New Technologies” programme at La Salle-URL

On Saturday 1 December 2018, the closing ceremony of this year’s "Crazy for new technologies" programme was held, and saw the participants collecting their diplomas. "Crazy for New Technologies" is a programme run by La Salle-URL that was created by the Catalunya-La Pedrera Foundation to stimulate scientific talent among young people.

The goal of "Crazy for New Technologies" is to promote technological spirit and innovation among high school students, bringing them into contact with technological advances in the ICT sector (Information and Communication Technologies). A total of 25 students from all over Catalonia, from both public and private schools, took part in the different workshops that were held until November.

Various classes have been offered focusing on 5 different areas with the common thread of new technologies. The programme has helped participants to understand first-hand the work done by engineers in different fields such as Web Development and Programming, Development of Mobile Applications, Robotics at the Service of People, Internet Technologies

and Cybersecurity, and Video Games. All these areas have seen demand rocket in recent years and in most European countries there is a shortage of professionals.

These courses are expected to bring about an increase in young students with vocation, technological spirit and innovation while meeting the needs and answering any doubts these students may have had to help them along their career path.

As part of the general programme "Crazy for Science", other courses have also been held that have enabled students to gain an in-depth, more technical look at more scientific techniques within the various fields. Students have been able to explore biomedicine, economics, physics, mathematics, nature and chemistry. In addition, students enjoyed the chance to work with researchers to learn first-hand what work is like in an international research centre, gaining a clearer view of the professional scientific world.
