Yesterday saw the unveiling of shop windows taking part in the initiative “Els llums de Nadal il·luminen el comerç” [Christmas lights, lighting up trade], organised by BCD Barcelona Centre de Disseny and the City Council to innovate and revitalise traditional neighbourhood commerce across various neighbourhoods of the city as part of the Christmas campaign. The initiative was carried out in three districts: Sarrià, Gràcia and Sant Andreu. In Sant Andreu, four groups of students from the La Salle-URL School of Architecture took part and two of them won with their projects.
The winning project, according to the jury of experts, made up by Caroline Savin (Bloomint Design) and Ignasi Llauradó (Dear Design) was “Catch your present!”, created by a group of students from the La Salle School of Architecture, comprising Karine Bagdasaryan, Alexey Goncharov and Ekaterina Smal, a project which they carried out at the store ‘Molt més que carn’. This same project also won the second place people’s choice award.
First place in the people’s choice award also went to a group from La Salle-URL, made up by Valentina Cohen, Lorenth Erika, Alejandrína Langhi and Barrale María with the project “Collecting identities” at the ‘Gra de Cafè’ shop. Third place in the category went to student Júlia Marbà with "Joys of Christmas" at the store “Lovely Kids”.
The other group taking part from La Salle-URL was made up by Marc Alastrué and Gal·la Maculet with their project “Suitchoir” at the store Doble A. Moda Home. All of the teams were helped by their tutors Juan Briz, Isabel de Renteria, Jaume Pla and Laia Vives from the School of Architecture.
The essential idea is for the Christmas lights to take over and illuminate the shop windows, becoming an integral part of the display design. In total, 31 shops and students from 10 design schools in Barcelona took part in the initiative to give shop windows a special touch. The aim of the campaign is to ensure shops incorporate design as an ally to innovate: to improve their brand positioning, to win new customers and to improve the service they offer and the purchase experience.
