Towards An Adaptive Coordination Framework in Crisis Response Networks, by Nadia Noori
Last week, Nadia Noori, a PhD candidates and Marie Curie Fellow, shared her advances on her research work entitled "Towards An Adaptive Coordination Framework in Crisis Response Networks". Below, you will find the abstract of her research-in-process:
"In large-scale disasters, the emergence of network-based coordination structures in crisis management systems are introducing new challenges to the existing command and control based crisis management systems. The emergence of response networks is a result of the dynamic nature of the crisis event, such dynamic conditions raised the need to have a coordination structure can accommodate the high levels of uncertainty and intense occurrence of changes during the course of a large-scale disaster. The conventional methods to study and develop crisis response system are based on static perspective and conventional organizational operations. That approach is failing to cope with the constant needs of more flexible crisis management systems. Novel approaches are emerging such as social network analysis and agent based modeling techniques to study and help developed better decision support systems, training programs and modify policies to accommodate the dynamic nature of disaster events.
In this proposed research, we look into the existing crisis response systems from a dynamic perspective and utilize social network analysis, coordination theory and agent base modeling to understand the coordination actions in such unstable environments. Understanding the formation of coordination structures in such turbulent environments will contribute to advancing the existing response systems to produce flexible crisis management systems that can cope with crisis conditions.
Thanks Nadia Noori for sharing your research with us!
