Barcelona in May

It is finally May 1st. It feels as though I was just at home celebrating the turn of 2008 to 2009. Unfortunately the weather is not exactly on our side and the rain is coming down. No need to be gloomy like the weather though. Barcelona has a lot to offer in May and will keep us on our feet the entire month.  Music- I came across a fun fact I thought I would include: Upcoming live gigs in Barcelona: 976 and 436 venues! Pretty crazy huh? Countless of performances are coming up in this month which will keep our ears ringing until June. Let me start with the Primavera Sound Festival from May 25-31. The festival takes place in different venues such as Parc Del ForumApoloL'Auditori, Sidecar Factory Club, and Joan Miró Park. Some of the best International and Spanish acts will be appearing, among Neil Young, Ghostface Killah, Half Foot Outside, My Bloody Valentine to name a new. The full list you can see by clicking here. More concerts for May include, Beyonce, Ligablu and  Sergio Dalma. Other festivals taking place around Barcelona in May is the Screamin Festival, Indie Pendent, Let's Go Festival, OhBlong!, and Telecogresca.  Culture- This month is the last month to visit the Catalunya exhibition at the CCCB (as mentioned in the Rainy Days post)named Illuminaciones: Visionary Catalunya. Highly recommend it! Not to mention the BAMAKO African exhibition running until June 1st. China: A Century of Revolution at Casa Asia is also a phenomenal exhibition displaying China through 1947 to present day. (finishes on May 17th) Speaking of May 17th....Norwegian National Holiday!! If you really want to party, hang with the Norwegians on this day..more information will be given later. Moving on..the Egyptian Museum, Fundació Arqueològica Clos, has a crazy skeleton exhibition happening until the end of June. The exhibition shows the wide range of illnesses and ailments suffered by our ancestors with 136 skeleton remains.  Sports- As football takes over the minds of most 2-legged creatures in Barcelona in May, lets put some focus on that as well. Their home games this month are against Villareal on the 10th, and Osasuna on the 24th. Not to mention the important away game against Madrid on May 2nd.  May is also the month for the annual Spanish Grand Prix: Circuit de Catalunya Formula 1!  From May 8-10th the city changes! The grandstands fill up, Barcelona's hotels are booked and the nightlife goes wild. Over 60,000 tickets are already sold worldwide ready to watch Alonso, McLarren and Hamilton race their way to the finish line.  Check out this site for tickets and venues for different concerts and sports matches happening in Barcelona. So I wish you all a Happy May!
