New DEA presented: Environmental Sound Source Recognition

A new DEA (Advanced Studies Diploma) was successfully presented last June 8th 2010 within the research group on Media Technologies, in the area of multimodal processing, by the PhD candidate Xavier Valero, here there is a summary of his research: Research is conducted to achieve robust intelligent systems capable of recognising the sound sources present in the environment. Despite the novelty of the field, several sectors might benefit from the introduction of such smart technologies, having multiple applications like security telesurveillance based on audio information, audio-context awareness for portable devices, enhanced aids for hearing impaired people or evaluation of noise health effects.
