Last Saturday was a night where most of the museums in Barcelona were opened to the public! Obviously the first type of museum that comes to your mind is the Picasso, Caixa Forum in Placa Espanya, CCCB… … but think outside the ‘touristic box’! There are crazy science museums with mad performance and even magic shows! Here’s a list of the museums opened last weekend. Click on the images below to get more information about the event! Or click here for videos CaixaForum To avoid the impossible queues and overcrowded ‘hot spots’, my friends and I went to visit CosmoCaixa where they exhibited science and magic. It’s actually just 5 mins walking from our Uni! It was simply mind blowing and unforgettable..!! Everything you have never thought of were there! They compared brains, did illusion experiments, had magic shows and most amazingly they had a real AMAZON. At the bottom of the building, they made an indoor amazon where birds and inserts were free and it was always raining! I’m still angry at myself for not bringing a camera… It was one of the funniest nights I had in Barcelona, it’s really cool to have these trips with friends and not go to bars and clubs on a Sat night for a change. ; ) The next open night will be on the 31st of May, so don’t miss it!
Here are some pictures of CosmoCaixa, a place worth visiting on any day Spanish News in EnglishPosteado por Grace

The title explains all. The Spanish government’s new law: No smoking will be allowed in any Public Area, starting June 2010. This does not only include streets and parks but also bars, restaurants, hotels, clubs, airports and train stations. So to second-hand smokers: hooray! No stinky clothes and hair. However I think that it’s going to take more than a sign to stop people from smoking, we have some very heavy smokers in Barcelona! There are quite a few places in Barcelona where you can find English Books on sale. There are the official book stores in big shopping malls such as El Corte Ingles in Portal Del Angel or Fnac in Pl. Catalunya/ L’Illa, Diagonal stock new books at import prices. For newspapers and magazines in English you will find them in the common touristic kiosks (newspaper stands) in the center. I prefer to go to smaller book stores that are located in the local neighborhoods that are less advertised. I think you can receive better varieties and can also get better recommendation from the owners rather than just ‘the better sellers‘. Here are two I would recommend: Come-in English Bookstore and Hibernian For more bookstores in Barcelona, click here Sant Jordi’s DayPosteado por Grace

Click on the picture above to learn about the story of ‘The Lovers Day’ in Barcelona. Today is Sant Jord’s Day! For those who are new to this tradition Catalan celebration, it is similar to Valentine’s Day in Catalonia where girls receive roses and gives books to guys. They don’t have to be your lover but someone you care about like a friend or people you work with. Barcelona they’ve been exchanging them on April 23 since the 15th century! St Jordi’s (George’s) Day is also England’s National Day. In Barcelona, hundreds of flower stands selling roses and makeshift bookstalls are hastily set up for the occasion. By the end of the day, some four million roses and 400,000 books are purchased in the name of love, registering half of the total yearly book sales of Catalonia on this day alone! If you have some free time, take a walk on the famous Las Ramblas or Ramble Catalonia and feel the spirit of this lovely day! International Food Day next Tuesday!Posteado por Grace
