Josep Ferrando, director of the School of Architecture and Building Engineering La Salle (ETSALS), has received four nominations for two of the most prestigious Latin American Architecture awards: two at the XV Spanish Architecture and Urbanism Biennial (BEAU) and two to the FAD 2021 Awards. The project of the Torcuato di Tella University in Buenos Aires (Argentina) and of the House in Asunción (Paraguay) are among the finalists of the call 'Panorama de Obras de Arquitectura y Urbanismo' of the BEAU. This second work, the House in Asunción, has also been chosen among the international finalists of the FAD 2021 Awards, in which Ferrando will also compete in the 'Pensamiento y Crítica' section for the collective work Barcelona 60's - Housing and City.
In the last edition of the FAD Awards, that of 2020, the ETSALS director was the most awarded architect, receiving three recognitions: the International FAD Jury Prize and the International FAD Opinion Prize for his project at the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella from Buenos Aires; and the Opinion Ephemeral Interventions Award for 'Common Spaces Barcelona Building Construmat'. The FAD Awards, organized by the Fomento de las Artes Decorativas (FAD) through ArquinFAD, are a benchmark in the sector, rewarding the most notable works among architects from the Iberian Peninsula.
For its part, the XV Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU) is convened by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda through the General Directorate of Urban Agenda and Architecture, and has the will to bring architecture and urbanism closer to the citizenship. In addition, it seeks to project Spanish architecture as a contemporary reference of the discipline at an international level and show the way in which the cultural, historical and artistic identity of heritage is combined with innovation and modernity. The XV BEAU has the collaboration of various institutions and entities linked to architecture, including the School of Architecture of La Salle-URL.
