"Light Up Mirror", contemplating reflected light in a mirror

The proposal of lighting intervention of architectural students of La Salle-URL can be seen on February 16, 17 and 18 in the Masoliver Passage within the Festival Luz BCN Poblenou

The group of students of architecture of La Salle-URL, formed by Deiane Fernandez, Marcia Homs, Livia Di Pietro and Ana Rodríguez, has made the proposal of light intervention for the Festival Light BCN Poblenou 2018, "Light Up Mirror" that can be see between the 16th and the 18th of February in the Pasaje Mas Oliver (entrance on the street of Pujades).

Both the Catalan word mirror and the English mirror come from the Latin miradai, which means 'to marvel' or 'was fascinated by something'. Today, mirrors have become surfaces on which we see ourselves reflected, and have lost their etymological meaning. Light Up Mirror proposes a tour to ignite a new look and see beyond the first plane. Mirrors are surfaces that reflect objects through light, but ... what happens if we convert light into the reflected object?

Under this premise is based the project that is composed of a series of vertical planes, with different inclinations, which limit the space and make it a journey. As the viewer moves forward and according to each point of view, he will discover perceptual changes fostered by the arrangement of the luminaire and the optical effect created by the mirrors. Thus, through the contemplation of the spectator, he can stop seeing himself, go into the background and enter the void created by the limits of the luminaries.

The festival of light in Barcelona celebrates its seventh consecutive year with a remarkable change of scenery: the streets, courtyards and corners with centuries of history of Ciutat Vella, will light the Poblenou, a neighborhood with an industrial heritage that lives an intense process of transformation to become a new technological district, of innovation and creation. This festival will fill the Poblenou quarter with light for three days with 14 light installations created by schools -among them, La Salle-URL- and 26 spaces transformed by artists.

The Festival Luz BCN has designed different routes so that the different facilities can be visited. The schedule of the facilities will be Friday 16 and Saturday 17 from 19-24h and Sunday 18 February from 19-23h.
