The Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism rewards the works of three professors from the School of Architecture

The Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU) has announced the 20 winning projects of its 15th edition, which was recently inaugurated in the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona. Of the 581 proposals initially submitted, only 70 were finalists and of these, 20 have been awarded. Three of these projects are led by members of the School of Architecture La Salle-URL (ETSALS): the Torcuato di Tella University of Josep Ferrando, director of the School; the Recovery of the Merola Tower by Carles Enrich, professor of the University Master in Architecture; and the Clos Pachem 1507 Wineries of the Harquitectes studio co-directed by Xavier Ros, professor of the Master in Integrated Architectural Design (MIAD).

The new building of the Torcuato di Tella University, located in the River neighborhood of Buenos Aires, in Argentina, is one of the most awarded architectural projects of the last year. The project by the Josep Ferrando Architecture studio, led by Josep Ferrando himself, director of ETSALS, was recognized in the 2020 FAD Awards with two awards. The proposal poses an open organization that integrates the diversity of the campus, expressing a lot with very few elements and serving as a mockup in the classes. "I wanted to make a building where you could teach with the building," explains Ferrando about the project.

For its part, the Recovery of the Merola Tower by Carles Enrich in Puigreig was one of the nominees for the Emerging Architecture Awards 2020 by Architectural Review. The objective of the work has been to guarantee the preservation of the remains and recover the building for the town, promoting a new attraction for possible visitors. Finally, the third of the awarded projects is the Clos Pachem 1507 Winery of the Harquitectes studio co-directed by Xavier Ros. The wineries are located in the municipality of Gratallops, in Tarragona, and the challenge of the project was to achieve an optimal performance of the building that would contribute to the production of wines.

The 15th Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU), which is convened by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda through the General Directorate of Urban Agenda and Architecture, has the will to bring architecture and urbanism closer to citizens. In addition, it seeks to project Spanish architecture as a contemporary reference of the discipline at an international level and show the way in which the cultural, historical and artistic identity of heritage is combined with innovation and modernity.
