How to build a creative portfolio to stand out in 2025

The ultimate guide for students and professionals.

Whether you are a digital artist, animator, graphic designer, photographer, or writer, having a well-organized portfolio can make the difference when looking for new opportunities.

What should a creative portfolio have?

1. A careful selection (less is more)

It is not about showing everything you have done, but to choose the works that really speak well of you: technique, creativity, style, storytelling. Maximum 8-10 pieces, and if they can be related to the type of project you want to achieve, even better!

2. Context and process, not only results

Recruiters are not only interested in the beautiful, but also in the “how you did it”. Explain briefly:

  • What was the challenge or briefing?

  • What tools did you use?

  • What role did you play if it was a team effort?

  • What did you learn?

3. Visual, clean and navigable format

Whether in PDF or web, the design must be at the service of the content. Use clear typography, arrange the pieces by categories (illustration, 3D modeling, concept art, motion, etc.) and make sure the user doesn't get lost.

Why should you get an online portfolio?

Having an online portfolio is crucial in the digital age. Not only does it allow you to reach a wider audience, but it also makes it easier for interested parties to access your work anytime, anywhere. In addition, a well-designed online portfolio can demonstrate your skills in web design and digital tools.

How to present it online?

1. Use professional platforms

You can use Behance, ArtStation, Adobe Portfolio or even set up your website with Notion or Wix. The important thing is that you can easily update it and share it with a single link.

2. Include animated or video pieces

If you study animation or VFX, video is key. Create short reels, present storyboards or breakdowns. At the La Salle campus you have access to technical resources to produce audiovisual content that really makes a difference.

And if you want to take your portfolio to the next level?

At La Salle Campus Barcelona, you will be part of a university model that combines educational excellence, international vision and a firm commitment to technology. The programs are designed for you to develop your creative potential with the most cutting-edge tools in the industry.
