Inspiring the new generation of artists | La Salle-URL

The Fira Barcelona filled with art on March 31, 1 and 2 April at the 41st edition of Comic BCN.

FICOMIC, the organization behind the planning of the event and other related events such as Manga Barcelona -since 1995- brings together experts and comic book lovers in a fair with more than 110,000 visitors.  

One of the biggest events of the comic industry in Spain that attracts experts, animators, artists and lovers of the sector. During this edition, publishers, schools and stores -national and international- join forces for three days to offer conferences, workshops, signings and exhibitions to the public.  

La Salle-URL participates in the event as the only university center present at Comic Barcelona 2023. Discover the highlights!  

Comic BCN 2023 shows the strength of an industry that continues to grow  

Comic Barcelona - held every year since 1981 - is the event par excellence for comic lovers, illustrators and artists. In its 2023 edition they counted with more than 48 guests, 15 international artists and more than 30 conferences, screenings and podcasts.   

The space, which has more than 50,000 square meters and 200 exhibitors, includes drawing workshops, videogame areas, screenings, and an exclusive section for children with activities, workshops and a children's cosplay parade.  

With the aim of reinforcing the image of a sector in constant evolution, during the event professionals such as Anne Simon, Aude Picault, Barbara Stok and Rosemary Valero-O'Connell -among others- offered conferences and sessions discovering new talents and trends in the industry.  

Comic BCN 2023 Awards   

The Cómic Barcelona awards recognize authors and authors of comics in Spain, supporting the work of publishers who are committed to the works. In short, they want to be a recognition of the best that has been published during the last year.    

With the aim of recognizing the best comics published in Spain during the previous year, this year the categories and winners were the following:   

  • Grand Prize - Trini Tinturé  

  • Popular Vote Award - Persona Normal by Manuel Álvarez  

  • Best Work by a Spanish Author - Transitorios, by Nadar  

  • Miguel Gallardo Award for Best New Author - Manuel Romero  

  • Best Work by a Foreign Author - Listen, beautiful Márcia, by Marcello Quintanilha  

  • Best Fanzine - Neodimio fanzine, VV.AA.    

  • Best Children's and Young Adult Comic - Comiendo con Miedo, by Elisabeth Karin Pavón Rymer-Rythén

La Salle-URL boosts arts and animation education in Spain  

During Comic Barcelona 2023, La Salle-URL participated as the only university center to offer orientation related to programs linked to art, animation and multimedia.   

They also had students from the Campus demonstrating drawing techniques using a cintiq, a graphic tablet used by artists and animators to trace creative ideas.  

It opens up the possibility of expanding the work, opening it up to new frontiers and further exploring the creativity of each artist.”
