La Salle-URL hosts the International Baccalaureate World Student Conference (IBWSC)

Last week the IB World Student Conference 2015 took place at La Salle Campus Barcelona. The conference gathers students from International Baccalaureate (IB) schools from all over the world. On this occasion, the university hosted close to 150 students, aged between 15 and 18, from 20 different countries including the United States, Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and England, among others. The conference dealt with the issue of Technology in a Global Society, the way it has transformed the world around us and influenced society and how it is possible to create a better world through the application of technological innovation. The conference provided students with a critical eye on the use and impact of technology and allowed them to explore various forms of technology from the perspective of an architect, engineer or businessman. During the week presentations by experts in the field were combined with practical sessions in which students were able to apply the concepts learned. Two of the conferences that took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, 7th and 8th of July, were Smart Cities or Smart Citizens?  with Ramon Martin de Pozuelo and  Robotics in therapy and education  by Alex Barco, both professors at La Salle Campus Barcelona-URL in these areas. In addition, on Thursday the students visited Cosmocaixa, with the Exhibition Experiment 2100, connected to the topic of the conference, as it is about what the world will be like in the future and includes a section on how technology can help to solve many challenges. La Salle Technova, technology based business innovation park of the university, was responsible for organizing the Start Up Challenge. During three days students learnt how to innovate to be an entrepreneur by creating a company, with real practices: 4 real challenges of enterprises in the park were presented to the students, who had to come up with new solutions to some problems. On the last day the presentations of the students proposals took place in front of a jury and the company that set out the challenge.
