On the 7th May La Salle-URL will host the first Greenlight for Girls event in Spain to promote STEM vocation among girls

g4g is a one day event aimed at girls with the purpose of promoting vocations in science through workshops and activities in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The event is organized by the international NGO Greenlight for Girls, which carries out these events worldwide, and is sponsored by Cisco and La Salle-URL. The idea is that about 200 girls between 11 and 15 attend this all day event held at the campus of La Salle-URL, in which they will find fifteen business' workshops, foundations and organizations that work in these areas regularly. As defined by Greenlight for Girls, the goal of g4g is to inspire and motivate girls in Barcelona and its area; putting them in contact with other girls their age from different schools; enjoying, working and playing in workshops in the areas of STEM; and hearing the experiences and success stories of local and global female models in different fields related to STEM. Why does this event take place? Many activities are currently directed at teenage girls, aged 16 years, whereas stereotypes among boys and girls appear much earlier, at about 11-14 years, the age this event intends to influence. Some data also shows this need: in 2014 in Catalonia 52.5% of the people who went to college were women, yet only 13% enrolled in engineering degrees; and a fifth of computer science students wonder if it’s a degree for them  or not. Companies, organizations and foundations that want to collaborate conducting a workshop, with volunteers or materials still have time to request information by writing to projects@greenlightforgirls.org Registration for the conference will be open in mid-March and you can find more information about the event at http://greenlightforgirls.org/g4g-day-barcelona-2016/
