Great success of the 1st BGW Game Jam organized by La Salle-URL at the Barcelona Games World

A total of 103 students from 12 universities participated in the 1st edition of the BGW Game Jam organized by La Salle-URL within the Barcelona Games World video game fair. The participants had 30 hours to develop in teams of 4-5 members a video game related to the theme that was announced at the beginning of the event, the smile. After the 30 hours of work, on Saturday afternoon the teams had two minutes to present their prototype to a jury formed by five members: José María Moreno de AEVI, David Fraile de Bandai, Roberto Serrano de Koch Media, Marisol López ICEC and Josep Antoni Llopart, director of the Barcelona Games World. Prizes were awarded in 5 categories: Best Game, Most Original, Best Artistic Concept, Award for Technological Innovation and a Special Prize.

The jury decided that the winner of the prize for the best video game was "Headlights", a work developed by Juan Cuch i Fernández, Alan Elwood Yagüe, Natalia Puig Girón and Pol Vega Díaz de Tecnocampus Mataró, and David Hernández Lázaro de CITM / CPU. The game is based on the concept that smiles are contagious, and is a platform game in 2D located in a dark world where the protagonist needs light to be able to advance level.

This light is generated around you depending on your degree of happiness and to be able to increase this happiness and with it to get more light you need to find other happy people in each level. The jury appreciated very much the general concept as well as the application and the use of the technology. The team won the prize for the best game received 500 euros and a train ticket for each of its members to a destination to choose between Paris, Lyon, Marseille and Toulouse.

The most original game prize was the "Funeral", the artistic concept for "Soul Clash" and the technological innovation for "Smile Bag", with a prize for each of the three teams of 300 euros. The jury also decided to award three prizes to evaluate the work done in "Joke Battle Contest", "Be Gentle" and "The Chat", with a pack of 5 games for PS4 as a prize. In addition to the organization of the Game Jam, La Salle-URL was also in the training part of the Barcelona Games World with a stand where it offered information about its related programs in this area, and some of its professors gave lectures on gamification or the future of the profession. In addition, from the innovation park La Salle Technova Barcelona, participated in the professional space for indies with workshops on business model and monetization.
