World Animation Day was established in 2002 by the Association Internationale du Film d'Animation (ASIFA) as a way to commemorate the first public screening of moving animated images. This screening took place on October 28, 1892 when Charles-Émile Reynaud presented his Théâtre Optique at the Musée Grévin in Paris, France. This projection marked a milestone in the history of animation.
