Cisco's death? Other Data Center Solutions
Cisco has monopolized the market of the IP communications during long years, but Cisco may have missed the boat in the control of the market of the Data Center.
Two big companies have appeared trying to overshadow Cisco in this field, because Cisco has begun in this field relatively late. These two companies have joined forces in order to overcome Cisco, HP and Fortinet.
The main solutions for a Data Center can be divided in three main parts: servers, network technology and security. HP shines in the two first fields, and fortinet in the last one.
Servers Solutions: HP offers the HP Integrity family of Servers, created for mision-critical applications based in x86 architecture, withcompatibility with the high end CPUs and of course the highest virtualization support, a high support for VMWare platform.
Network Solutions: The HP range of proucts of hp is divided in Data center core, Data center access and Routers.
- Data center core: there ara the FlexFabric 12X00 switch series, the next generation modular data center core switch designed to support virtualized data centers and evolution needs of private and public clouds deployments.
- Data center access: for example the HP FlexFabric 5930 is the family of high-density, ultra-low-latency, spine and top-of-rack (ToR) switches, the HP FlexFabric 5900v Virtual Switch Series delivers a high-performance, standards-based solution to the orchestration of physical and virtual data center networks in a VMware ESX 5.x environment.
- Routers: for example the 8800 Router Series, that provide wire-speed 10 Gigabit ethernet forwarding as well as carrier-class services, security and availability to meet the robust demands of service and application providers.
Security Solutions: Fortinet have a security solution for the datacenter called Fortigate a family of firewalls that have 40/100 GbE ports, and high Capacity Firewall,up to 300+ Gbps firewall throughput with virtualization and Cloud-Ready, for example the FortiGate 5000 Series.
