Improving the Hardware Performance of a Datacenter
The main ways of optimizing the hardware are using it as need it, or in other words, through the virtualization and another abstraction of this concept, but in the network, or in the cloud the well-known cloud computing.
- Virtualization:In the datacenter environment, virtualization means, rather than use a hardware component per operative system, use a virtual version of that operative system, that permits put more than one operative system or virtual machine in a hardware, and adapt every virtual machine with the usage of that machine. This way we can use hardware as needed.
- Cloud Computing: It means using some resources hosted in the cloud (it means somewhere in the network), but those resources are elastic, or in other words you can use as resources as you need in a concrete moment, for example if there are a high growth of needing of resources you can use it.
The two concepts can seem similar but in the deep both an important difference that can change the business decisions. Essentially virtualization is software that manipulates hardware, but cloud computing is the service that result from that manipulation.
Finally the impact of both technologies in a data center is the necessity of the required infrastructure in order to allocate that services and the virtual machines, the necessary network to serve that services, to allocate virtual machines and change the virtual machines between hardware, in order to manage efficiently the resources, and of course the security.
