Case Study

Our final goal is to design a 3rd generation data center for a financial institution. This mean we have to think and design every aspect of the datacenter.

Since we are designing it for a financial institution it’s a very critical environment and has to meet some sensitive points such as:

  • Very high availability
  • Limited budget (balance between quality and final budget)
  • Very high security (we are working with very sensitive data)
  • High density of connections
  • Redundant data (more equipment)

datacenter

All the hardware solutions are meant to be solved with our assigned manufactures. As a reminder, those are Dell and Juniper.

We can divide our requirements in four big groups:

  1. Network requirements (Juniper)
  2. QoS and management requirements
  3. Security requirements
  4. Basic services offered by the data center

Those blocks will be explained in more detail in every post since now to the end of the course. Each week or so, we will be detailing each point since there are more than you could think in a glance.

Finally we will be doing a presentation explaining our final design, what equipment we used and a brief comparative with a possible Cisco solution.
