Services Solutions

In this post i will talk about the solution and the equipments requireds in order to accomplish the services requirements of the case study.

The requirements are:

• Consolidating all the computational resources.
• Reduce significantly the amount of equipment.
• Allow the movement of the active services from one physical device to another one.

In order to achieve all of that, the best solution is to implement virtualization, it allows a total control of the resources, a high efficiency and a lot of flexibility.

So that technology is the perfect one to integrate the maximum number of equipment in only a few physicals. Also is the one that allow the exchange of services.

The solution I have chosen to solve virtualization is VMready, a feature implemented by the company IBM. The bigger reason is that apart from offering the normal features of virtualization (works with all major hypervisors including: VMware, Hyper-V and Oracle VM), it also provides extra services.

Some of that services are:

• Automatic discovery: Discover and identify virtual machines in the data center automatically and reconfigure network settings automatically.
• Virtual groups: Consist on create groups of similar virtual machines with dedicated switch resources and isolated from other virtual machines. Also you can configure thousands of virtual machines, each with their own set of parameters.

Another reason to choose VMready is because it have a featured called NMotion that allows the automatic migration of VM network configuration and VM group features.

The equipments that i will use for implement all of that are RackSwitch G8316 of IBM. The reasons are because they are optimized for applications requiring high bandwidth and low latency, because it have 16 ports that support 40Gb and obviously because it works with VMready.
