Software Defined Networking

Hi Friends! Today I will introduce you a new technology which is revolutionizing networks.

Have you ever heard about SDN?

SDN is an emerging architecture that is dynamic, manageable, cost-effective and adaptable so allows network administrators to manage network services.

SDN’s Technology enables cloud architectures through distribution and mobility applications customizable and scalable. This is possible because there is a Control Plane which make decisions about where traffic is sent and the Data Plane which forward traffic to the selected destination.

Finally SDN requires some method for the control plane to communicate with the data plane. We have the popular mechanism Open Flow which is becoming as a standard protocol.

The benefits of Software Defined Networking:

  • Directly Programmable: Network directly programmable because the control functions are decoupled from forwarding functions.
  • Centralized Management: Network intelligence is logically centralized in SDN controller software that maintains a global view of the network.
  • Reduce CapEx: SDN potentially limits the need to purchase more products because it adapts to what we have.
  • Reduce OpEx: SDN enables algorithmic control of network elements makit it easier to design, deploy, manage and scale the network.
  • Deliver agility and Flexibility: SDN’s helps organizations rapidly deploy-new applications, services, and infrastructure to quickly meet changing business goals and objectives.
  • Enable Innovation: SDN enables organizations to create new types of applications, services and business models.

To conclude, SDN greatly facilitates the control of our network allowing us to modify and manage the network without configure every device. On the other hand, as all is configured by a unique protocol, we will have a lot of security measures because do not have to fall into the wrong hands.
