Power efficiency and Cold Management

Hello everyone, today we’ll speak about the power efficiency.

The main goal is to reduce the CAPEX and OPEX.

The coast will come mostly from electricity and the refrigeration.

To lower the cost due to the cold needed for the data center, some companies decided to install themselves in cold area and/or country.

The other big aspect is the electricity needed, we need a lot of electricity at a point of some data center consumes more electricity than cities.

How to have the best data center in term of cold and power efficiency?

  • The server room should be inside the building where the wall are thin enough to transmit the heat.
  • The sun shouldn’t be able to light the room otherwise it will heat it.
  • We should have around 120 watt per person for the data center .
  • Not too much light is needed, around 15 to 20 watts/m².
  • The computers, servers must be used at more than 90%.

That’s all for today, we haven’t spoken about theUPS which permits to still have electricity for the server during a blackout but I recommend you to gather data around it if you planned to make a data-center.
