Security: Our Case Study

Welcome again!!! In today’s posts we’ll continue talking about the security of a data center but applied to our case study. If you missed our last post you can review it here. As always, as we will focus on the enterprise given to us to work: SonicWall.

As we said in our last post, the security of our datacenter must be faced in two fronts:

-Physical vulnerabilities: We must consider all the attacks that we can suffer in our "real" world. We must implement controlled access to all the workers in our datacenter, outfront security, CCTV surveillance...

-Digital vulnerabilities: All the security issues that we must control on the "digital" world.

Today's post will be focused on the second front. We will take a look over all the SonicWall equipment and software that we think that must be used on our case study involving a next-gen Data Center.

As SonicWall is a sub-enterprise of Dell corporation as you'll see, some of the products that we'll be talking today have been already introduced on previous posts.

On the SonicWall devices range, the ones that we must take in consideration for our case study are:

SuperMassive E10000 series: A deep security next-gen scalable firewall capable to work at multiple gigabit speed, is allows us to control and analyze all the traffic that or network will be handling. It controls incoming and outgoing traffic, vpn and secure connections to our network, attack control - logging and report... among a lot of other features.

SMA 1000 seriesThe SMA 1000 series are a group of products and equipment specific designed to control remote access, it not substitute the work of our main firewall; but it adds redundancy, better control and analysis and much better performance (on this aspect), so combined, gives to our security system a lot of protection.

–SonicWall also offers us Email security specific designed products that deal to all the attacks and vulnerabilities that can reach us through the email of our network.

SonicWall Analyzer: Is a software that runs on SonicWall devices that gives us a web-based network traffic analysis and reporting tool. This very complete toolbox allow us to evaluate data, backup and recovery, secure remote access appliances, traffic analytics, event reports

SonicWall devices also allows us to control our private DNS servers of our enterprise LAN, create multiple copies of them, managing from a single point, enter or delete dns entries…

Some systems explained today are redundant and you may want to dispense of one of them (you probably can resolve all the needs with a single SonicWall device) but we have to consider all the solutions. So we you can have a wider view of the multiple solutions.

That has been all for today’s post, as always stay tuned to the new posts to learn more and have a nice week!!!
