Going from TFG to gold: journey of “Dancing with Death”

Talent that goes beyond the screen.

What if you created a short film with your class group that made it to festivals and competitions and even won gold?

This is what happened with “Dance with Death”, the short film created by eleven students of Animation and VFX Degree (class of 2020-2021) of La Salle-URL, which has been awarded the GOLD Award at WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival, one of the oldest and most prestigious independent film festivals in the United States.

The award, which this year celebrated its 58th edition, was given to Dance with Death, which, although it began as an end-of-degree project on campus, is now beginning to make a name for itself outside our borders as well.

A story with action, love and death

The short film tells the story of Sofia, a young robber who, while on the run, comes face to face with death itself. A visually powerful proposal, with a lot of rhythm and that brings to the table themes such as destiny, love and second chances.

It has been months of hard work, of learning, of overcoming challenges... But to see that the project is traveling around the world and receiving awards is the most gratifying thing.” Berta Alsinet, BCM author

“Dance with Death” was born in the creative environment of Brooder Lab, the animation project lab on campus, and is a clear example of the level of talent and demand that La Salle's final projects have.

Who is behind the short film?

Authors:

Carlota Massó Cabré, Berta Alsinet Reig, Paula Anglas Martos, Núria Aranda Romero, Martina Berney Carbonell, Joan Cortit Vaquer, Laia Domene Galcerán, David Martín Lanuza, Roger Menta Priante, Víctor Moya Téllez and Gisela Torras Sierra.

It all started as a TFG, and now we are winning international awards. We didn't expect to get this far... It's crazy!”  Berta Alsinet, BCM author

A team that has shown that from the university you can also tell great stories... and take them to the world.

Tour of festivals

Since its premiere at Sitges International Film Festival, where it received a special mention from the jury, the short film has not stopped traveling around national and international festivals. It has been recognized and awarded in festivals and competitions such as:

  • Molins de Rei

  • Animac

  • Animainzón

  • Filmets

  • Barcelona Indie Awards

  • Sweden Film Awards

And now it is also part of the official selection of two key events in the 2025 calendar: Huesca International Film Festival and FIC-CAT.
