From a Master's dissertation to real impact: innovation in eHealth
Turning an idea into a solution that changes lives. That's what Mercedes Cha, a Uruguayan nephrologist with training in health and change management, did.
Her Master's Thesis in eHealth became Enlace DP, a technological project that is revolutionizing the way peritoneal dialysis is managed in Latin America.
Why Enlace DP?
The initiative was born in response to an urgent need in Latin America: to improve access to and management of peritoneal dialysis. This technique, in addition to being more efficient in terms of resources, represents a sustainable alternative to hemodialysis, reducing water consumption and generating a positive impact on the environment.
The application optimizes communication between patients and healthcare teams, improves clinical follow-up, and facilitates the management of supplies, avoiding accumulations and expirations. This results in more proactive and efficient care, adapted to contexts where the lack of specialists makes access to nephrology difficult.
Innovating from Latin America for Latin America
The project was presented at the Congress of the Latin American Society of Nephrology and Hypertension (SLANH) held in Guayaquil, with the support of the National Resource Fund, the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), and two leading health institutions, which has allowed it to be validated as an initiative of great value for the region.
The most important thing is that the master's degree gave me the tools to transform a real need into a practical solution through a viable, practical, and scalable technological solution. I learned to integrate clinical, technological, and management perspectives into a single project," explains Mercedes.
