Workshop on Robots and children in the therapeutic field in the expo "Human +" at CCCB

On November 26th La Salle Campus Barcelona will carry out the workshop "Robots and children in the therapeutic field. Robotics for hospitalized children and children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) " within the section "Start-ups and Spin offs. University and company "organized by the CCCB in Barcelona as part of the the exhibition "Human +" The workshop will be offered by professors Jordi Albó and Àlex Barco, from La Salle-URL together with Cecilio Angulo from the UPC and Hospital Sant Joan de Déu presenting two projects. The first is based on the design, implementation and evaluation of a social skills program for children with ASD, focused on conducting activities with robots. The second aims to create a robot to reduce anxiety and stress in hospitalized children. In the project on autism, a robot can be used as a facilitator or a social partner that stimulates social skills in a game scenario. Studies show promising results using construction activities and programming with LEGO, where a statistically significant increase in the number of social interactions are noticed. Children with ASD (autism spectrum disorder), given their interest in robotics, can benefit from LEGO robotics to develop social skills in the context of educational and therapeutic programs. Pleo is a robot pet that aims to provide company and relieve anxiety and stress in hospitalized children and their companions during their stay. In this project, the results have shown that PLEO robots favour the establishment of an interaction that helps children and their families to unwind from a stressful life situation. The CCCB opens the Beta Space to business initiatives related to universities working in the field of technology or disruptive business models related to some aspects of the project "Human +. The future of our species."
