Javier Fernando Del Carpio Gallegos, from Universidad ESAN, Francesc Miralles Ph.D., from La Salle-URL; and Alejandro Erasmo Loli Pineda Ph.D, from Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, worked together in the research of this publication, focusing on two main objectives. First to identify the relationship between market and institutional networks and technological innovation; and second, to analyze the relationship between the obstacles that firms assess when developing innovations.
They found in the literature that there has been little interest in researching innovation in emerging economies, in which there is a greater presence of low-technology intensity firms that also develop technological innovations. Therefore, they collected and used data from 705 Peruvian manufacturing firms. By applying a partial structural equation model the authors found a relationship between networks and innovation, when firms are linked to networks, their capacity for technological innovation improves.
These findings are pertinent to practitioner profiles since low-tech firms in this context particularly, face hardships affording strong R&D units and plans. This specific study helps stimulate literature from the perspective of innovation implementation in Latin American contexts, which often needs to refer to studies from advanced economies.
