Socially Assistive Robotics - providing  support to humans through interaction. Biennal Ciutat i Ciència

On February 9th, the Media Technologies Research Group took part in a  series of workshops at La Pedrera focused on approaching science to the general public, specially children. The event was part of the Biennal Ciutat i Ciència in Barcelona.

More precisely, the workshop "Socially Assistive Robotics - providing support to humans through interaction" provided insight on how different types of robots can provide different type of support to different users based on their technical features, with special emphasis on their design, such as shape, form, texture, etc.

Participants had the opportunity to play with the robots and compare their functionalities. Moreover, we discussed the application of a general-purpose pet robot, Pleo, in a specific project conducted by the Robots4Health initiative at the Sant Joan de Déu Children's Hospital.

The event was very succesful, where not only young populations enjoyed playing, touching and taking care of the robots, but also the adults felt engaged with the activity and discussed the impact of the use of such technology in the health sector.
