WikiLeaks and Deaths in the Iraq War

It is a distinctive source of Information bornt because of Internet. I guess, we could say Wikipedia is his father.

What's his name? WikiLeaks! And what is exactly? It is an international organization that publishes submissions of otherwise unavailable documents from anonymous sources and leaks. Its website, launched in 2006, is run by The Sunshine Press. Within a year of its launch, the site claimed a database that had grown to more than 1.2 million documents.

The organization has described itself as having been founded by Chinese dissidents, as well as journalists, mathematicians, and start-up company technologists from the U.S., Taiwan, Europe, Australia, and South Africa. Souce: Wikipedia

We do need to have several sources of information. Why? It is true we can reach a lot of information nowadays, but to what extent this information is true or almost true?

We don't know, however we can read a lot and get our own persepective, our own true. What is the role for Wikileaks? It publishes documents that could help you to create your own true a little bit more accurate.

But, again to what extent could someone trust these internet sources of information? Perhaps the awards obtained? Perhaps not? No matter what, I think it is a great source of information, what do you believe? Below some of the awards:

WikiLeaks has won a number of awards, including the 2008 Economist magazine New Media Award. In June 2009, WikiLeaks and Julian Assange won Amnesty International's UK Media Award (in the category "New Media") for the 2008 publication of "Kenya: The Cry of Blood – Extra Judicial Killings and Disappearances", a report by the Kenyan National Commission on Human Rights about police killings in Kenya. In May 2010, the New York Daily News listed WikiLeaks first in a ranking of "websites that could totally change the news". What is wikileaks offering  up to date? Check that out Economist, information about the Iraq War: WikiLeaks documents deaths in the Iraq war

The article linked above shows that between 2006-07 the number of civilians death at half of the year was about 8 times the number of Iraqui forces death, that's more than 5000 people by then.

What I am sure is that Wikileaks is a very innovative way for news to be published and that probably may change the news industry. Is this a disruptive new business? What do you think about it?
