In the age of AI, SAP is transforming its certifications

In this new era where knowledge is within reach everywhere, SAP is transforming the process of obtaining its certifications, moving away from a focus on theoretical knowledge of module functionalities and shifting towards evaluating practical mastery of the module.

For years, the SAP certification model was mainly based on multiple-choice exams, where much of the effort focused on memorizing questions and answers, since the exam was taken without any supporting materials. This approach, although useful for validating certain theoretical knowledge, had a significant limitation: much of this learning was not effectively transferred to real-world work as a consultant.

What is changing?

The new certification process consists of solving a practical case on a real SAP system, prepared with the following characteristics:

  • This practical exam is “open book”, meaning candidates can use any documentation they need and access any source of information they consider appropriate.
  • On the selected exam date, the candidate gains access to the case statement and has a 24-hour period to complete it, allowing time to prepare what they will need to “execute” in the system to solve the proposed case.
  • The exam must be started and completed within those 24 hours.
  • Once started, the exam has a defined time window for its practical resolution, typically between 2 and 3 hours.

What do you gain?

With this new process, SAP certifications help improve students’ practical knowledge in their preparation and training as SAP consultants, as it completely transforms the way they prepare:

  • Study effort is focused on real-world practice.
  • Work is carried out directly within the SAP environment.
  • Skills that are truly applicable to real projects are strengthened.

The conclusion is that the new process not only improves the evaluation system but also significantly enhances the quality and usefulness of learning.
