eLPD2: The immersive e-learning solution to train technicians in adapted sports through AR and VR technologies

The project led by INDESCAT seeks to democratize and scale training in adapted sports through an interactive and experiential virtual experience.

The eLPD2 project led by INDESCAT, the sports industry cluster, in collaboration with KID'S CLUSTER and other partners, has developed an immersive e-learning solution using AR and VR technologies for the training of technical specialists in the training of athletes with disabilities . The innovative solution transforms the training experience into a virtual and interactive format for scalable, democratized and fast-learning training that represents the maximum experience that current technology allows.

The initiative aims to contribute to the inclusion of people with disabilities in sport and provide the necessary support so that this inclusion is carried out with equal opportunities, which coincides with the draft of the sport bill. The consortium met on the ski slopes of La Molina to test the prototype developed in relation to people with blindness and tunnel vision, which allows the monitor to live the experience from the point of view of the disabled athlete.

The use of hybrid technology has been essential for the immersive experience to be valuable and generate a positive impact on users. The knowledge, skills and experience acquired with this project will make it possible to create new experiences for other people with different disabilities, which will expand the educational offer of the platform and ensure the future sustainability of the project. This project responds to the growing demand for professionals with specific skills and knowledge to train and help athletes with disabilities, thus improving their quality of life and promoting their inclusion in society. It is an application designed for skiers with different degrees of visual impairment, aimed at current or future instructors of skiers with these characteristics.

In summary, this industrial research project aims to develop interactive and experiential tools to facilitate training in various sports disciplines for athletes with disabilities through an online educational platform that allows access to all and that is scalable. This initiative has the following partners:

In addition, this initiative has received funding from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism within the AEI support program to contribute to improving the competitiveness of Spanish industry.

In total, a budget of €220,781 and a grant of €165,235 have been obtained.
