Getting ready for Model United Nations in New York
8 students from the La Salle Business Engineering School undergraduate business program have been preparing for months. They've had to study the latest international news, learn the history of their chosen country Panamá, and drill themselves on United Nations history, policies, and code of conduct. All in preparation for this year's National Model United Nations conference in New York City. 2 of our students have been studying a semester abroad in New York, so we'll be reunited for the event. The La Salle Model United Nations Society has been active since 2005 on the incentive of the students wanting to gain more experience in the field of International Relations. Since then, La Salle Model United Nations Society has participated in six conferences representing countries and organizations such as World Bank, Burundi, Uzbekistan, Colombia, Malaysia, Bahrain, and . In its very young history, La Salle Model United Nations has received numerous awards at the National Model United Nations. The La Salle Model United Nations Society was also a recipient 2007 Hayden Scholarships, named in honor of a former NMUN Secretary-General. As in years past, we'll be staying at the Marriott Marquis hotel in New York's Time Square. From this privileged location students can explore everything New York has to offer: restaurants, theatre, parks, nightlife... that is until the conference starts in vigor! We'll have a few days to relax in the city before starting on Tuesday, April 3 with the opening ceremony. From then on, there are intensive sessions lasting all day and into the night. Students from over 30 countries will meet, negotiate, form groups, write resolutions, and try their best to represent their chosen countries. Conference activities continue at a breakneck pace until Saturday, when we have the honor of participating in the closing ceremonies in the U.N. General Assembly Hall. On Friday we're on our way, but we'll keep in touch through the La Salle Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/LaSalleBCN.International), and on Twitter (#LSUnitedNations).
