Abstract: The LHC (Large Hadron Collider) at CERN is the world's most powerful particle accelerator colliding bunches of protons 40 million times every second. Three of its experiments, ATLAS, CMS and LHCb, aim to discover new particles that explain the fundamental unknowns in our Universe. With the increase of the data volumes and complexity in the coming years, the LHC experiments will have to process, select, store and analyse 40 TB/s of physics data. In this panel we will discuss how the HEP community is tackling in order to handle these enormous amounts of data, and if they could be useful in other fields with similar computing challenges. Exploring alternative computing architectures, the use of commercial clouds and high performance computing centers, the development of real time and advanced data analytics, and the application of deep learning techniques are some of the ideas that we will debate here.
