A note from our new student council's president.

Getting to know our new Student Council President Maranda Butts Carbin, this is the speech she wrote after the election in the beginning of the month:   My high school memories include suspensions for smoking, boozing (still a premature light weight at that point!), and being part of the elite " boy's shower room spying " squad, an achievement that to date makes my Mother flush (who aint no English rose). I aspired to be part of the cool, we don't giva punk, group, a role that gave the illusion of freedom . Student council structures and dynamics, on the other hand, have always been a mystery..... So I read around a little bit, about democracy, leadership, teamwork n, all that stuff, and here is a summary of my favourite principles or guidelines :   Unparalleled to none other, is your absolute authority to have us canned if we're not doing what we've been elected to . Democracy is for the people, by the people, can't remember the third one, but its basically associated with a concept of unity, so I'd guess team work is vital - First year's, seriously, ask us for all the info missing in the brochures! Fourth years - enlighten us on the gruelling battle ahead!! An individual's motive to elect a leader requires trust, trust is a result of patience and understanding. We have been elected to be your representative voice, be patient and understand that we can only act in the authority we have been given, and that change does take time. Chocolate makes the world go round So if your dacuerdo  with the above , you  made the right choice and we're on the right track..  I am honoured to be a part of the student council this year, as well as working with the faculty and staff. Thank you for taking the time to read my somewhat absurd introductory note, Gentlemen I applaud you for  not cringing, and Ladies I know you get the chocolate thing. In any case My next email will be a lot more operational, after the new student council has settled in.   Good luck to all for the week ahead, and to the last minute crammer - GOD SPEED!!!   Promise to keep you posted, Sincerely, Maranda
