FINANCIAL DECISION MAKING This module will introduce you to the basic concepts in accounting and finance needed by all professionals in today’s business world. As a result, you will be in a better position to assess the organisation’s financial position and help deploy financial strategies to support the organisation. The first half of the module focuses on the financial statements, financial reporting and analysis. We will begin with a brief overview of accounting, and move on to analyzing the financing statements. The first half concludes with group presentations analyzing the financial statements of a public company. The second half moves on to financial decision-making. The focus is on the investing decision of a company: valuing and evaluating investment options and capital budgeting. The risk-return relationship, one of the most important considerations in finance, is emphasized, as well as the quantification of risk and cost of capital.
