Social Entrepreneurship in Practice! La Salle SUMMER SCHOOL 2011

The social entrepreneurship movement is starting to come of age. Ideas that were once only shared by a few idealists and iconoclasts have spread quickly, permeating mainstream discussions around topics such as poverty alleviation, human rights, and global warming. During this course, we will analyze social entrepreneurship’s recent growth, what it means for the prospects of capitalism and the contemporary business world, and what the future holds for those business people venturing into this interesting—yet highly complex—space. We will dive deeply into business strategy, dissecting decisions that proved both successful and unsuccessful. During some classes, we will also meet and speak with social entrepreneurs who will guide us through their chosen processes of innovation and decision‐making. The course is aimed at all students that have an interest in societal problems and how they can be addressed by small non government organisations. A prior basic knowledge of business or economics is recommendable but not mandatory.
