Good Stories and Uncharted Territories: Edutaining Human-Beings

Level 1: The “HomoLudicus” loves Games. And this is us!. In fact we like to be challenged by “Serious”, or should I say Applied, Games. These simulation experiences that we create orbit around the four axes of game design, as defined by Jesse Schell: the definition of the Aesthetics, the set of Rules or Game Mechanics plus a well-written and scripted Story by means of the appropriate Technology.

And yes, Jane is absolutely true…

Level 2: The Edutainment field, known as Playful Learning by some researchers, coupled with the Gamification of the Educational system and methodology study the act of learning through a medium that both educates and amuses at the same time. We do understand it like that at La Salle Almere as you can see here. Games are built on the top of several items which are also profitable for the design of an educational experience: different types of media (boards & dice f.i.), playing experiences (Arcade or strategy f.i), technologies (3D engines or AR-based peripherals, f.i. algorithms (AI, Physics f.i.) and an application.
