Hi Chaps! This weekend my girlfriend came to visit me and we be visited San Fran cisco, Alcatraz and Napa Valley. We decided to rent a car so we could move at our will and besides, de gas is much cheaper here than in Barcelona so… :) Friday we went to San Francisco, we visited many places like Telegraph Hill –amazing views of the city form there-, Fisherman's Wharf –Pier 39-, Union Square and Market street –very nice places for shopping-, and of course, The Golden Gate Bridge. We also walked through China Town –quite scary and nasty- and Little Italy. Overall, we had a very nice day in San Francisco and we really enjoyed the city. Saturday we decided to go Napa, so we jumped on the car and hit the road! Wooow what a beautiful place… If there is something that you MUST do if you come to Bay Area is definitely visit Napa Valley. We visited 3 different wineries, Mumm, Black Stallion and Turnbull. The three of them were very nice and the staff was very kind and helpful. We did guided tours where they explained us how they process the grapes and finally make wine. At the end of the tour, we could taste some of their best wines…As you can imagine, at the end of the day and after visiting 3 wineries we were quite happy. Sunday we visited Alcatraz. We wanted to do the night tour so I’d be creepier but it was already sold out so we went after lunch. Anyway, the tour was great, we got to see the whole Island and of course the prison itself, where the inmates use to be… it reminded me of the movie The Rock. We had a great time there as well. After visiting Alcatraz, we went back to Moraga –Where Saint Mary’s College is- but before we stopped at a very nice little town called Walnut Creek because we wanted to have some dinner. For my surprise we discovered a Catalan Restaurant there so we decided to have dinner there. The restaurant is called “Va de Vi” – it’s about wine- and is a wine bar. We ordered some wine of course, and duck. Everything was delicious, and the price very decent. I met the owners of the place and they were not Catalan, they where 2 Americans that visited Barcelona and where so impacted by the city and our culture that decided to build a Catalan Restaurant in the states. Impressive. The place it’s been opened for 7 years now and its one of the most popular restaurants in Walnut Creek. I highly recommend it. I’ll post some pictures so we can share the experience with you!
